21st January – Pete Atkin - £5

Yes, Clive James’ songwriting partner is back!  With new recordings and tours together, there has been a major revival of interest in their witty and entertaining songs.

 

4th February – Jim Page - £5

A compelling mix of humour, irony and improvisation from this much-admired songwriter and activist on tour from the USA.  “Every now and again, I encounter a singer who gives me a glimmer of hope.  “Jim Page carries the light” (Christy Moore)

 

18th February – Brian Stimpson - £2

Folk, blues, country and jug band songs from our versatile banjo and guitar picker.

 

4th March – Belshazzar’s Feast - £5

Bellowhead’s Paul Sartin (oboe, violin and vocals) joins forces with Hoover the Dog’s Paul Hutchinson (accordion) to produce a myriad of scintillating musical surprises, hilarious banter and inspired musicianship!

 

18th March – The Queensberry Rules - £5

Traditional and original songs from an exciting trio with a reputation for amazing vocal harmonies and catchy choruses.  “Destined for great things” Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2.

15th April – Kirsty McGee and Mat Martin - £5

Kirsty’s ability to meld incisive words with infectious melodies has earned her two BBC Folk Award nominations, glowing press reviews and appearances at major festivals.  “Absolutely superb” Bob Harris BBC Radio 2

 

6th May – Terry Fougere - £2

Accomplished folk, blues and original songs from our resident singer/guitarist.

 

20th May – Strangeworld - £5

Using a unique combination of instruments, including cittern, oboe, cello and accordion, this talented four-piece produces a wonderfully addictive sound inspired by folk sources from around the globe!

 

3rd June – Open Stage - £1

Free to performers, good value for the audience.

 

17th June – The Twagger Band - £4

Featuring five of the county’s most experienced traditional musicians, expect an entertaining mix of songs and tunes played on a variety of instruments.

15th July – Karen Tweed - £5

Highly respected for her collaborative work, this is a rare solo appearance from one of our most celebrated accordion players.  Exploring the beauty and magic of the music of England, Ireland and Scandinavia with remarkable touch and musicality!

 

5th August – Barron Brady - £5

Two young performers who confidently uphold the richness of the tradition with superb vocals and impeccable musical accompaniment – destined for great things!

2nd September – Klezmer Klub - £5

Since the 1990s this wonderful band has delighted audiences with their wild and tender Klezmer music and Yiddish songs.  “Music that gets to your heart by way of your feet!”

 

16th September – Dana and Susan Robinson - £5

Regular visitors from the USA and consummate instrumentalists (guitar, banjo and fiddle), their music, influenced by the Appalachian and Celtic traditions, reflects a deep affection for the landscapes of rural America.

 

7th October – Dave Rannie and Friends - £2

Behind Dave’s ever-present sense of fun lies an excellent singer of mainly traditional songs.

 

21st October – Suntrap - £5

Drawing on the English tradition and American folk and country, their mesmerising sound includes a double fiddle section, guitars and accordion carefully woven around slip-sliding vocal harmonies.

 

4th November – Boo Hewerdine - £5

One of the country’s finest tunesmiths, Boo’s warm and evocative songs (like the Eddi Reader hit “Patience of Angels”) may be more famous than he is but he remains a classy performer in his own right.  Don’t miss!

 

18th November – Black Strap Molasses - £2

With their adventurous repertoire, expect the usual dose of tears and laughter from this popular local five-piece.

 

2nd December – Pamela Wyn Shannon - £5

With echoes of Pentangle and Nick Drake, Pamela’s wistful vocals and beautiful finger-picking guitar style creates music of timeless grace “….utterly lovely., so sweetly poignant…”  Shirley Collins.

20th January – Ben Paley and Tab Hunter - £5

Beautiful and energetic Swedish, Irish, Klezmer and American traditional music and more from a top-drawer fiddle and guitar duo.

 

3rd February – Isambarde - £5

With an unusual and winning combination of guitar, fiddle and oboe, coupled with full-on vocal harmonies, this young trio has taken the club and festival scene by storm, breathing fresh life into a repertoire of mainly traditional songs.

 

17th February – Brian Stimpson - £2

Our versatile guitar and banjo picker presents a lively mix of American roots music.

 

3rd March – Mad Agnes - £5

From the USA, this trio’s performances are unique in the folk world, being a mix of street theatre, rock, Celtic and classical music.  Their lyrics, vocal intricacies and instrumental prowess make their music smart, intelligent and, above all, entertaining!

7th April – Mountain Firework Company £5

Led by Irish singer songwriter Gareth McGahan, the band’s gorgeous alt-country/folk is equal parts darkness and cheeky humour!  Check out their wonderful new album ‘Samurai’.

 

21st April – Steve Ashley - £5

Co-founder of the legendary Albion Country Band, Steve played a key role in the development of English folk rock with his classic album ‘Stroll On’.  His recent album ‘Time and Tide’ cements his position as one of our very finest songwriters.

 

5th May – Terry Fougere - £2

Classy folk, blues and original songs from our resident singer and guitarist.

 

19th May – Zoox - £5

Using a fabulous range of instruments (from contrabassoon to congas) this superb trio serves up a cocktail of new melodies and traditional tunes with a delicate balance of strings, wind and percussion.

 

2nd June – Open Stage - £1

A warm and attentive audience awaits, performers free.

 

16th June – Bof! - £5

This band comes highly recommended and specialises in the songs and tunes of central France and Brittany played on a variety of traditional instruments including diatonic accordion, hurdy gurdy, bagpipes and mandola.

 

Floor singers are welcome but early arrival is recommended.  Admission for floor singers is half price when full admission is £4 or more, otherwise there is no charge.
